Shooting at Mexico’s Teotihuacan Pyramids Leaves at Least One Dead, Several Injured
A shooting at the world-famous Teotihuacan Pyramids archaeological site in Mexico has left at least one person dead and several others injured, according to Mexico’s security cabinet.
Authorities reported that a gunman opened fire at the popular tourist destination in the State of Mexico on Monday, killing a Canadian woman before reportedly taking his own life. At least six people were injured in the incident—four from gunfire and two while fleeing the scene in panic. Medical teams are currently treating the wounded.
Officials said a firearm, a bladed weapon, and live ammunition were recovered at the site. Early reports indicate the attack unfolded near the Pyramid of the Moon, prompting visitors to flee as shots were heard across the archaeological zone.
Videos circulating on social media show chaotic scenes as tourists and staff ran for safety during the incident. The site, located about 30 miles northeast of Mexico City, is one of the country’s most visited cultural landmarks.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed condolences and confirmed that federal, state, and local authorities are coordinating the response. She also stated that the government is in contact with the Canadian Embassy regarding the victim.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the motive behind the attack.
