Stone Park, Illinois — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that left 18-year-old Daniel Mendez dead late Sunday night in the west suburban community of Stone Park.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, Mendez, a resident of Bensenville, was found unresponsive near the intersection of North and 32nd Avenues shortly before 10 p.m. Emergency responders arrived at the scene but he was pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds. His death has been officially ruled a homicide.

Police have not released details regarding a suspect or motive, and Stone Park authorities have not yet provided additional public statements about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The incident adds to ongoing concerns about gun violence in the Chicago suburbs, where law enforcement continues to investigate several recent shootings.
